St James Way - Worting to Upper Wield
This is the 3rd stage of the St James way and is a difficult one to do with public transport. There are 2 options for meeting us for this walk. You can get the 76 bus from Basingstoke train station and meet us at the start at 10:30. If you driving then you can meet us at the end at Upper Wield at 10:00 to join the car share, I do ask if you are wanting to car share can you please be willing to help taking people if needed.
The walk starts at the Church of St Thomas of Canterbury where you can get a stamp for your passport if you didn't get one at the end of the stage 2. The walk then take us around the bottom of Basingstoke through a mixture of housing and park land. We do go past a coop if people need to buy any extra food before crossing over the M3. The walk is then through open fields as we head towards Dummer. At Dummer there is All Saints Church we will stop at for a stamp and will be our lunch stop.
After lunch the walk is a really pretty walk across different fields and a few woods until we get to Preston Candover where we will go to look at the old church of St Mary the Virgin which is looked after by the church's conservation trust.
The last part of the walk takes us to Upper Wield, this section does have more road walking before walk through fields into Upper Wield and stopping at the Norman church of St James.
On the way back to Worting there is The Yew Tree pub we can stop at if people would like a drink.
