🥾 Walk 4 - Chobham Common

4th August: Either the weather forecast put people off or everyone was watching the Olympics but the turn-out was low on this walk - only four of us today. Most of the rain came and went before we started, with only one shower after we set off. In fact it was quite sunny for most of the walk.

The walk was mostly through heathland and occasional woodland. Starting northward to visit the Queen Victoria monument, the walk then headed south, crossing over the M3 motorway at Long Cross, to Albury Bottom and Butts Hill.

After a picnic lunch we stopped off at a pub in Burrow Hill before making our way back to the starting point, this time going under the motorway near Staple Hill.

As there were only four of us and we were all experienced walkers, we made good progress with a brisk pace averaging at over 4 mph!

Unfortunately I haven't got the route recorded for this walk, or the previous walk, as in both cases only the first half of the walk was recorded.

I've now worked out what was going wrong with my GPS receiver, so hopefully the route of the next walk will be available on the website afterwards. (My GPS receiver has a power saving feature that switches itself off after two hours if you haven't pressed any buttons. I've turned that feature off now.)
