Bagshot and Lightwater Country Park via Windlesham
We start from Bagshot station where we shall meet outside Platform 1. From the station, we embark on a scenic adventure from the busy A322, which we'll navigate with care before reaching the charming St. John's Baptist church in Windlesham. We'll take a moment to admire the picturesque grounds.
Next, we'll continue our journey across the M3 via a convenient footbridge and into the Windlesham arboretum. Although the arboretum has a yearly fee for full access, we can still enjoy the views from public footpaths that crisscross the grounds.
After carefully crossing the A322 once again, we'll make our way to the beautiful Lightwater Country Park, stopping first at the Red Lion pub for a refreshing drink, before proceeding to Hammond Pond, our tranquil lunch spot. For convenience, toilets and Lightwater Country Park Café are nearby.
Following lunch, we'll climb to the top of High Curley Hill to enjoy breathtaking views. On clear days, we can see a stunning array of sights, including Bagshot Park, the residence of Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex, as well as the iconic Ascot Racecourse. In the distance, we'll also catch glimpses of Woking, and if we're lucky, the magnificent London skyline will be visible too!
As we make our way down, we'll pass by the old vehicle testing area and cross under the M3 before arriving at Earlswood Park. If we time it right, we'll be treated to a spectacular display of rhododendrons in bloom – a true highlight of our walk!
